When does the season start? There are as many answers to this question as there are types of cycling fan. For me, it never really stops. So that's my way of neatly sidestepping the entire debate. But there is a range of possibilities when it comes to declaring the new racing calendar open. Some of these will be seen as grotesquely misguided, others as quite missing the point, but most of them are valid in their own ways.
