Gujarat Giants purchased 18 players at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 auction in Mumbai on February 13. They picked up six overseas players to complete their player strength for the squad and overseas cricketers' limits. After their purchases, they were left with a purse of Rs 5 lakh from their total amount of Rs 12 crore. Gujarat Giants specifically targeted big overseas names at the auction. They went for T20 World Cup-winning all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner at Rs 3.2 crore. Australia’s Beth Mooney, who was a Player of the World Cup final, was purchased for Rs 2.2 crore. The franchise’s other big overseas purchases at the WPL auction were England Women’s batter Sophia Dunkley (Rs 60 lakh), young Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland (Rs 70 lakh), West Indies captain Deandra Dottin (Rs 75 lakh), and Aussie leg-spinner Georgia Wareham for Rs 75 lakh. Among Indian purchases, Gujarat went for rising middle-order batter Harleen Deol (Rs 40 lakh), bowling all-rounder Sneh Rana (Rs 75 lakh), opening batter Sabbhineni Meghana (Rs 30 lakh) and keeper batter Sushma Verma (Rs 60 lakh).
