UK road team Wiv-Sun God is aiming to go up to ProTeam level after an exceptional year of results at home and abroad

As every professional athlete knows, preparation is the key, down to every small detail: rest, diet and the right balance of training. Get that right and the results will come. If Euan Macleod was in charge of pre-race meals at Wiv-SunGod, rider Jim Brown explains, the results of what has been the team’s most successful season to date might have been different.

“Macleod is a funny guy, he’s always on form. He’s hilarious and I’ve got so many good stories involving him,” Brown says. “I remember once he was making himself an omelette; most people would whisk their eggs but not him. He put them in a blender along with some ham and made the most disgusting pink coloured thing I’ve ever seen!” Brown adds.

Reflecting on this season, his teammate, Matt Bostock says: “I think the main thing is that we’ve cut out the excuses as a group. I think we’re at a point now where if you don’t have the legs, you don’t have the legs and you just say you’ve had a bad day. That’s what we ask for now, there’s no more, ‘I had the wrong milk in my porridge’!”

Led by Tim Elverson, Wiv-SunGod are on the way up. After a successful 2019, the Hampshire-based team bounced back post Covid to fly into 2022 racking up a series of impressive results. After the pandemic, various teams have struggled to bounce back, but Wiv-SunGod rode straight into form and in some style too.
