It's easy to forget that the power of the stars to evoke awe and connection lies in our willingness to experience their beauty directly, in the moment. When we get caught up in trying to capture that experience or get distracted by analytical thoughts, the magic disappears. At best, our experience loses colour. At worst, we get lost in a disconnected world, like James Joyce's Mr Duffy, who “lived a short distance from his body”.
