It’s all been announced: the games, the release date, the price. Oh boy, the price…
Ready, headset, go! PSVR2 loads up

The secret is out. People around the world will start pulling on Sony’s new headset on 22 February, but they’ll need to pay an eyebrow-raising £529.99 (or £569.99 for the package with a Horizon Call Of The Mountain code) in order to do so. That price demands examination, but first let’s take a look at some of the games they’ll be playing on the new hardware.

Original PSVR players may be familiar with Until Dawn: Rush Of Blood, a literal rollercoaster of a shooter with plenty of scares. A spiritual successor (pun not intended, but welcome) has been announced in the form of The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR. While the core idea remains the same – an on-rails sitting experience that mixes shooting and horror – this is aiming to be something more advanced than ‘more of the same but at a higher resolution’.

3D audio means demons whispering in your ear, and, most fascinatingly and terrifyingly of all, the headset’s eye tracking is being used to introduce enemies that move only when you blink. We’re having nightmares just thinking about that. Add in multiple paths and a promise that “no two runs will be the same”, and this could be a game that offers effective scares every time you play.
