Lensbaby, the manufacturer of hand-built lenses that enable creative effects to be applied in-camera, has introduced a revised version of its popular Double Glass optic. The Double Glass II is part of the company’s optic swap system and can be used with any of the lens housings (barrels), including the Composer Pro II and Spark 2.0, which are available in a wide range of mounts.
The Double Glass II clicks into the housing with a twist and is then ready for action. It has a focal length of 50mm and is compatible with full-frame or smaller sensors. Unlike the original Double Glass optic, the Double Glass II has a 12-blade iris and ring to enable the aperture to be adjusted from f/2.5 to f/22.
The lens creates a spot of sharp focus surrounded by a blurred area. When the Composer Pro II or Spark 2.0 is attached straighton, the sharp spot is at the centre of the frame, however, this can be moved up, down and side-to-side by bending the housing. The optic comes with a collection of shaped drop-in aperture disks that are magnetic and can be used to add extra interest to the out-of-focus areas.
The Double Glass II makes a great introduction to the world of Lensbaby and, in some ways, it seems like the most ‘Lensbaby’ of all the available optics.
