New law will make nation a more just place
Yorkshire Evening Post
|September 20, 2025
This week the Government confirmed it was planning to press ahead with a new law which would make it illegal for public officials to mislead the public.
It is as shocking as it is damning that such a piece of legislation is required in a democratic society.
It has been dubbed the Hillsborough Law, as the driving force behind the change has come from the campaigners who have spent 36 years fighting for justice after 97 people were unlawfully killed at the 1989 FA Cup semifinal in Sheffield.
But they are far from the only people who have found themselves the victims of a cover-up at the lowest point in their lives.
