Mass transit plan nets £2.1b funding to get up and running

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has unveiled a £2.1 billion investment to start building West Yorkshire Mass Transit by 2028.
The £15.6 billion package for mayoral authorities announced yesterday (Wednesday) includes funding for a new mass transit system in West Yorkshire as well as extending the metros in Tyne-and-Wear, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, and a renewed tram network in South Yorkshire.
The move means more money for areas of the North and Midlands, including the so-called red wall, where Labour MPs face an electoral challenge from Reform UK.
