Middleton Railway, located alongside junction 5 of the M621, is a hidden gem.

The railway was built to carry coal from Middleton Colliery to the growing town of Leeds on the River Aire.
Colliery owner Charles Brandling obtained an Act of Parliament to build his railway, and it has operated trains every single year since 1758, making it the world's oldest railway.
