Bateson takes time out after ankle break

Leeds boxer Jack Bateson is taking time out with his family before beginning his return to the ring following last Friday's out-of-the-ordinary defeat in Ireland.

It was a disappointing night in the end for Bateson, 31, who suffered a fourth-round loss in his championship title fight with Irish boxer Michael Conlan on a televised show at Dublin's 3 Arena. And Bateson said: "Thank you to everyone for their kind messages since Friday.

"We went to Dublin to upset the odds, on away turf, in the lion's den. Everything was going exactly to plan until I was caught with a cracking shot that put me down - and left me with a broken ankle.
