Good touch and bad touch: Empowering children with awareness and confidence

As crime rates against children rise, empowering them with age-appropriate knowledge helps protect them from abuse and builds a foundation for healthy relationships throughout life

Understanding Good Touch and Bad Touch

Good touch refers to physical contact that makes a child feel safe, happy, and loved. Examples include hugs from family members, high-fives with friends, pats on the back, and holding hands with a parent. These touches are usually given by trusted individuals and create positive emotions, reinforcing a sense of security and belonging

Bad touch, on the other hand, is any physical contact that makes a child feel uncomfortable, scared, or confused. This can include unwanted touching of private parts (the areas covered by a swimsuit), forced hugs or kisses, touches that hurt, and any contact that is kept a secret. Bad touch often comes from someone the child knows, which makes it even more important for children to recognize and respond to inappropriate behavior
