Child marriage stopped in joint action of administration, police and social organizations

In an important and sensitive intervention in district, marriage of a minor girl was stopped in time by joint action of administration, police and social organizations. This action was taken in coordination with Chairman of Child Welfare Committee Umesh Kumar, District Child Protection Officer Reena Rani, Women Protection and Child Marriage Officer Bhanu Gaur, Police Administration and team of MDD of India. As soon as information was received that the marriage of a minor girl has been fixed, the Child Protection Unit, Police Department and Child Welfare Committee reached spot and talked to family.
They were made aware of social and legal seriousness of child marriage. After sensitive dialogue and legal information, family decided to stop marriage.Chairman of Child Welfare Committee, Umesh Kumar said that as per Child Marriage Prohibition Act, 2006 passed by Government of India, minimum marriageable age of any girl is 18 years and minimum age of any boy is 21 years.
