A BULGARIAN man working in Devon was beaten and treated like a slave by a cruel bully, a court heard.

- PAUL GREAVES

Yanko Yankov, 35, threatened and controlled the man while he was living in Cullompton. He took the victim's wages which he earned working at the Two Sisters chicken factory in Cullompton.

He dished out regular beatings and told the man: 'You're mine now'.

The victim's ordeal ended when he walked into a local police station and begged officers for help. He said Yankov and his wife had been using his bank card and making his life hell for two months.

Yankov escaped to his homeland in 2020 but faced justice after being hauled back to the UK. He has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison at Exeter Crown Court.
