Shows where people mend stuff make great TV. I have a theory as to why. Care to hear it? ‘‘Gosh, yes, please, Mike!’’ I hear you cry. ‘‘I have nothing I'd rather do on a Friday than listen to one of your ‘theories’.’’

My theory is we're getting more and more impatient. Us humans, I mean. Mending stuff ourselves - darning socks, taking up a hem, sewing on a button - it all feels like way too much of a faff now.
