Clubs in dash to clinch deadline day deals

Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City are both looking to strengthen their squads

PLYMOUTH Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley and Exeter City manager Gary Cauldwell are both expecting a busy day as they strive to add to their squads before the transfer window slams shut at 7pm tonight.

Cleverley has said he wants to see two more Plymouth Argyle signings before the transfer deadline, while Gary Caldwell is expecting there to be some arrivals coming through the doors of St James Park.

For Argyle, the urgency to add experience and quality to their squad only increased following the Pilgrims’ heavy 4-0 defeat away to League One leaders Cardiff City on Saturday, and with the news that attacking player Xavier Amaechi needs surgery for a serious hamstring injury and will be out of action until the new year.

Argyle have lost five of their opening six league games this season, conceding 13 goals, and it is clearly important more signings are made before the transfer deadline to give the squad a boost.
