ED GAMBLE TELLS MARION McMULLEN ABOUT HIS ENCOUNTER WITH MOVIE LEGEND ROBERT DE NIRO

- MARION McMULLEN

What was it like when film star Robert De Niro agreed to appear on the Off Menu podcast you host with fellow comedian James Acaster?

It certainly surprised us when Robert De Niro came on the podcast. It was quite incredible. He was not doing much publicity and he didn’t particularly want to reveal his favourite dishes. (Laughs) He made us work for it.

Are you surprised when you have people like Kate Winslet and Jeff Goldblum come on and talk about their dream menu?

It's been a good run and we've had some incredible guests. It’s great having those big names, but we love all the guests we have on. Tiramisu, sticky toffee pudding and roasts come up quite a lot as favourites, but it is not just about the food.

Even if guests pick the same things they come up with different stories behind the dishes. My own favourite dish changes every single day.

I loved being a judge on Great British Menu and having this incredible fancy food from these Michelin starred chefs, but I also love a big good pile like everyone tucking into noodles or a spicy Asian dish and all getting involved. I love that.

How did you feel about turning 40 this year?
