'Speak up' as 25,000 Welsh youngsters suffer sexual abuse yearly
Western Mail
|July 17, 2025
EVERY year, some 25,000 children and young people in Wales are sexually abused.
-
The Welsh Government is now seeking views on a long-term approach for addressing the enormous social problem.
The government says that its planned decade-long framework for preventing and tackling child sexual abuse represents the UK's first thorough long-term approach of this nature.
Children’s Minister Dawn Bowden emphasised that “the voices of people” impacted by sexual abuse would remain at the heart of the strategy and its implementation.
Public consultation on the draft framework continues until September, with the Welsh Government planning for the strategy to operate through to 2035.
