HOSPITAL doctor has kept his job despite a tribunal finding he inappropriately put his arm around a student nurse's waist and kissed her on the cheek.

- CONOR GOGARTY

Dr Amit Goel received a warning over his behaviour in the car park of Glan Clwyd hospital in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire.

The doctor qualified from an Indian medical college in 2003 and started working at Glan Clwyd in 2010. By the time of his misconduct in 2022 he was a registrar in trauma and orthopaedics at the hospital.

The day before the unwanted kissing and touching, the student nurse claimed Dr Goel had tried to hold her hand during a conversation on a ward.

“I thought it was strange but assumed Dr Amit was being friendly’’ she said. “I don’t think anyone saw this happen and I didn’t tell anyone about this incident.”

The complainant, who is now a fully qualified nurse, claimed Dr Goel asked her out for drinks twice that day and that both times she said no.

She said: “Both times when Dr Amit asked me out, I was near my lockers and no-one else was present”

Dr Goel denied trying to hold the nurse’s hand. He claimed he never asked her “to come out for drinks with me alone” and was actually speaking about a work party.

The next day, the nurse claimed Dr Goel “waited” for her to go on her evening break.

“I thought he was being friendly,” she said. “We walked outside and he said he'd walk me to my car.
