Residents call for council to speed up on A40 safety

PEOPLE living close to “Wales’ most dangerous junction” are frustrated at delays in making it safer, according to a local councillor.
Plans to prevent vehicles crossing the A40 at the Raglan Bypass in Monmouthshire are now being finalised, but Councillor Richard John said residents are asking why Monmouthshire County Council has not yet delivered the “quick wins” recommended in a road safety report published last June.
Proposals to stop motorists making right turns across the busy dual carriageway were first approved in 2022.
‘There have been multiple collisions and fatalities at the notorious accident blackspot on both sides of the dual carriageway, which has a speed limit of 50mph, reduced temporarily from 70mph.
Cars coming from the A449 are directed to travel across the carriageway and turn right using the central reservation to head towards the villages of Mitchel Troy and Dingestow via Groesenon Road.
