Maintaining the status quo in Wales would be 'madness'

DAVE Reddin insists it would be madness for the game in Wales to retain the status quo as the Welsh Rugby Union aims to radically alter the structure of the professional game.

The WRU will shortly begin a consultation process with its key stakeholders as to what the new structure will look like. One of the things being strongly considered is a reduction to three or even two professional clubs.

The game in Wales is in the worst state since it turned professional with the men’s national side having only recently broken a record losing run of 18 Test matches.

And Reddin is adamant big changes need to happen.

“I think we have to say, given where we are, that we can’t continue the way we've been,” he said.

“That would be the height of madness to think that one coaching appointment is going to change the outcome.

“I think we need to lean into that and embrace that.
