Ex-soldier crashed into oncoming car while drink-driving

AN EX-SOLDIER was under the influence of alcohol when he drove into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a woman's car which also contained her stepson.

The victims were hospitalised and the woman suffered an infection to a wound on her leg.

Edmund Glover, 40, was driving on the A470 between Libanus and Brecon, in Powys, on October 27 last year, when he drove his Mercedes head-on into a car travelling in the opposite direction. He was seen to cross the central lane on to the other side of the road.

A sentencing hearing at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court yesterday heard the other driver became aware of the defendant's vehicle in her lane, and thought it was travelling in the same direction.

She then realised the car was driving straight towards her, but was unable to avoid the collision.
