Colwill - 'I stayed because something special is brewing'

RUBIN Colwill said the thought of jumping ship and moving back to the Championship this summer did not interest him because he believes Cardiff have something special brewing.

Colwill took the vice-captaincy after the departures of Joe Ralls and Aaron Ramsey and flourished with the arm band at the weekend, relishing that added responsibility.

He is an older head in this Cardiff squad now, despite being only 23.

He is one of the most talented, too, and it would have been no surprise if a second-tier club came and poached him this summer.

But when asked why he chose to stay, despite relegation, his answer was simple: "I like to be a part of something, and to be an integral part of what we're trying to achieve at my boyhood club is very important to me.

"I think we can do something really special this year, use everybody this year, the academy boys, all the lads that have been here for two or three years, the ups and the lot of lows we probably had the last couple of years and turn it all around. I think it can be really special for all of us."

That something special will likely involve forming a formidable midfield pairing with his younger brother, Joel, who made his full league debut in the 2-1 win over Peterborough United at the weekend.

For Colwill, that in itself is a dream come true.
