REIGNING champions Newport moved up into third in Super Rygbi Cymru with a convincing 33-7 win at home over Carmarthen Quins.

CHAMPS HITTING THEIR BEST FORM

Former Wales wing Steff Evans was on the scoresheet for Carmarthen Quins

It was the Black and Ambers’ eighth win from their last nine matches, a run that has seen them storm back up the table after overcoming a difficult start to their title defence that saw them lose their opening five games.

Former Scarlets and Wales wing Steff Evans had given the Quins a fifth-minute lead with a try that was improved by fly-half Elis Price.

But three tries in a 10-minute spell courtesy of wing Fin Baker, fullback Carwyn Penny and scrumhalf Dafydd Buckland - all converted by Jac Lloyd - handed Newport a 21-7 advantage at the break.

That was the way it stayed until the 62nd minute when wing Lloyd Lewis bagged Newport's first bonus point, before grabbing Newport's fifth try 10 minutes later to put the seal on a comfortable six-point win. Lloyd converted.
