£25m contract for new nuclear plant
Western Mail
|February 10, 2026
A £25M contract has been awarded for work to start on delivering a new nuclear power plant on Anglesey.
Great British Energy - Nuclear (GBE-N) has appointed specialist consultancies WSP and Mott MacDonald to deliver the environmental services and permitting works for the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme at Wylfa.
This marks another significant milestone in progressing new nuclear development on Anglesey.
‘This work will play a crucial role in ensuring that the project meets the required environmental standards as plans for the UK’s first fleet of SMRs move forward.
The appointment will support a comprehensive programme of environmental assessments, regulatory engagement, and permitting activities. These are essential steps in preparing the Wylfa site for construction and ensuring that planning can be secured for the site.
