Turning her-cell-f into a symbol of charity's work

An Operations Director from Pitney is taking on the London Marathon this weekend to raise money for stem cell transplant charity Anthony Nolan - dressed as a stem cell.

Louise Cato, 43, decided to take on the iconic London Marathon to raise awareness for the charity because her father died from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), one of the diseases which can be helped via a stem cell or bone marrow transplant, when she and her sister were children. Louise has run almost 1,000 miles in preparation for the marathon and started training in November last year.

Louise said: "I am excited to raise funds and awareness for Anthony Nolan because, when my dad was ill, the option for a stem cell transplant was limited as the register was in its infancy.

"Now - thanks to the work of Anthony Nolan - so many more people get a chance of finding a match on the register and being given another chance of survival. As a donor people get to potentially change the story of someone's life, it's a huge and amazing thing to do. I'm running for all the families waiting and hoping to find a match.
