|November 06, 2025
GLOUCESTER City Council has today officially published its Greater Gloucester/wider Gloucestershire proposal for local government reorganisation.
-
It describes it as marking a major milestone in the discussion about reshaping the future of public services and democratic representation across the county.
‘The proposal sets out a vision for the creation of two new unitary councils ~ which will deliver clear, specific benefits for people living and working in all parts of the county.
Though it is unclear if they will receive fi backing from either other areas of the county or Westminster.
It says a new Greater Gloucester Council, covering the existing city council area and a number of neighbouring parishes, would be formed.
‘And a second unitary council for the remainder of the county, including Cheltenham, the Cotswolds, and most other parts of Tewkesbury, the Forest of Dean, and Stroud.
