Wedded bliss and murder... MARION MCMULLEN finds out what's in store for Humphrey and Martha in Beyond Paradise
SEA LEGS: Humphrey loves being in a boat
CLUMSY and accident-prone DI Humphrey Goodman and restaurant and bar owner Martha finally tied the knot in the last series of detective series Beyond Paradise.
They first met on the murderous, fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie in Death In Paradise and he later turned his back on the island sunshine and headed back to Britain to be with her.
They now live in the fictional town of Shipton Abbott in Devon and are busy putting down roots in the new series.
Actor Kris Marshall, who plays Humphrey Goodman, says: "Humphrey has evolved, and he's also become more content.
"When he first arrived in Saint Marie, he had a real wanderlust, always looking for a home. He's a little less clumsy than before, slightly wiser and more self-assured, but just as fun."
He is still looking for a home though. His houseboat is out of action and he has to move in with his mother-in-law Anne (Barbara Flynn).
But his wife Martha (Sally Bretton) is determined that this will only be a temporary arrangement as the couple look to put down anchor somewhere permanent.
Kris explains: "Ever since we met Humphrey in the Caribbean, he's been a frustrated sailor. He loves the romanticism of being on a boat and is always drawn to the water, so he is sad that this chapter of his life has closed.
"However, their new house is in the perfect location, and hopefully there will be more boats in his future."
Sally says the couple are definitely putting down some roots now they are married.
