Councillor suspended after 'racist' post online
Western Daily Press
|October 13, 2025
LABOUR councillor on Bristol City Council has been suspended from the party after making a comment under a post on a community Facebook page which others labelled ‘racist} and prompted complaints from Green Party councillors.
Cllr Fabian Breckels deleted the comment fairly quickly, but not before other members of the ‘Not Booty But... BS5’ community Facebook page had called him out for making it.
‘The comments were screenshot by neighbouring councillors, who said they were complaining to the council’s monitoring officer, and who called on him to resign or for Labour to ‘remove’ him.
On Friday afternoon, amid calls for him to resign or be removed as a Labour councillor, the Labour Party confirmed he had been suspended, and they had reported him to the council's monitoring officer, and the councillor himself issued an apology for the comment.
