Monaco too mean for Bird

THE streets of Monaco proved very mean for former Millfield pupil Sam Bird and McLaren during the latest rounds of the Formula E campaign.

‘The principality staged a double-header across the weekend, which also included the return of the new Pit Boost feature in race one.

‘Things looked to be starting ever so differently when Bird’s teammate Taylor Barnard became the youngest ever pole-sitter in Formula E. Bird wasn’t able to add much protection though as he qualified in 12th and had a job on his hands to get into the points.

After being locked into a battle for the majority of the race, Barnard was eventually put into a barrier by one of his rivals which ended his hopes of securing a famous win. He ended up down in 15th, with Bird only able to climb up to 11th as McLaren failed to score any points on the first race since the constructor’s announce-ment to be withdrawing from the sport at the end of the season.
