Foreign companies are increasingly going green in their manufacturing operation through the utilisation of renewable energy.

- By Olivia Bui

On June 24, Nikkiso announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Nikkiso Vietnam, an aircraft component manufacturer based in the Hanoi area, has commenced operation of a solar power system installed on the buildings of its two Vietnam factories.

The solar power system is expected to generate approximately 6,134MWh of electricity annually and reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 4,100 tonnes per year.

Under its medium-term business plan, Nikkiso has identified six material issues to advance sustainability management. One of these priorities involves initiatives for reducing environmental impacts, for which the company has set targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Nikkiso will continue to work towards reducing CO2 emissions at its manufacturing sites, while also developing products and technologies that contribute to the realisation of a low- and decarbonised society.

On June 9, Foxconn and Brookfield announced a strategic partnership to invest in and develop renewable energy projects in Vietnam. The partnership demonstrates how manufacturers are taking a more active role in securing clean power to support both their own operations and the wider supply chains that underpin future growth.
