Plans to turn vets into family home divides villagers

A DISUSED veterinary surgery in Lapford is to be replaced with a bespoke, self-build home after Mid Devon District Council approved plans for its demolition and redevelopment.

- by LEWIS CLARKE

While the proposal received support from the parish council and several local residents, the decision has also drawn criticism from neighbours concerned about traffic, access and the loss of a facility with longstanding ties to the community.

The full planning permission, granted to Mr and Mrs Tucker allows for the demolition of the former West Ridge Veterinary Practice on Popes Lane and the construction of a two-storey, four-bed-room dwelling with a garage, garden and associated parking.

Situated on the north-western edge of the village, the property is within Lapford's defined settlement boundary, meaning the principle of residential development is supported in planning policy.
