Local hero is celebrated at national awards recognising grassroots sport

A HARD-WORKING volunteer from Mid Devon has been recognised for the impact he has had helping sporting groups.
Simon Gledhill from Crediton was honoured at an awards ceremony celebrating the achievements of grassroots sports clubs and organisations across the UK.
The Sported Awards highlighted the vital role that local groups hold in transforming lives and strengthening communities.
Hosted by TV presenter and trustee of the Sported charity Jill Douglas, the evening also included the Vanessa Brown Volunteer Awards, with Simon scooping the award for Outstanding Achievement.
Simon has supported numerous community sports organisations since joining Sported as a Volunteer Consultant in 2022, specialising in financial management, business and strategic planning, and governance. He has worked with Warrior Women CIC, Bang Bang Boxing Gym and Combe Martin Football Club.
