Woman given 8 hours to live thanks brave family

- BY LUCY LAING

It's wonderful to meet the son of liver donor mum who saved my life

LOUISE Prashad is living proof of the power of organ donation.

She was just eight hours from death when she received the gift of a liver that saved her life.

Now a mum of two, she has not just survived but thrived, throwing herself into increasing awareness of organ donation and raising £300,000 for NHS Organ Donation, Tommy's and the British Liver Trust.

She won medals at the British Transplant Games, was a regional finalist for the 2024 Pride of Britain Awards, and has been crowned Ms Crown & Glory UK pageant queen.

None of that would have been possible without the selfless actions of organ donor Sarah McGinty and her family.

Louise reached out to the family - who were anonymous to begin with - several times to thank them, writing to them six months after her transplant and on the births of kids Ava, now six, and Nico, four.

And when she finally got to meet Sarah's son Jimmy and grand-daughter Lola in person last month, the bond was instant.
