FEDERICO CHIESA felt his crucial late goal in Liverpool's win over Bournemouth was meant to be because he had Diogo Jota by his side.

- BY MARK JONES

Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool got their new campaign off to a perfect start at Anfield with a 4-2 victory over the Cherries.

Having blown a two-goal lead, Chiesa netted in the 87th minute before Mohamed Salah sealed the win in stoppage time.

It was Liverpool's first league fixture since Jota and his brother Andre Silva died in a car crash during the summer.

Salah was left in tears at the end of Friday's fixture as Liverpool fans sang Jota's chant, and Chiesa insists the Portuguese star will always be in players’ thoughts.

Chiesa (right), who has been tipped by many to leave the Reds this summer after making just 14 appearances last season, said: "Above all, at Anfield it seems like in the second half when you attack towards the Kop, it feels like the ball wants to go inside the net.
