Trump Wants NATO Sanctions, Admits India Trade Rift

US President Donald Trump has escalated pressure on NATO allies and global partners, urging them to impose sweeping sanctions on Russia, halt all purchases of Russian oil, and adopt punitive tariffs on China. At the same time, he admitted that tariffs on Indian goods have caused a "rift" with New Delhi, while acknowledging that the Russia-Ukraine conflict—once expected to be resolved quickly—remains stubbornly unresolved.

In a detailed letter to NATO nations, Trump wrote: "I am ready to do major sanctions on Russia when all NATO nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO nations stop buying oil from Russia." He criticized NATO's lack of commitment, adding: "NATO's commitment to WIN has been far less than 100%, and the purchase of Russian oil, by some, has been shocking! It greatly weakens your negotiating position and bargaining power over Russia."

Trump emphasized that he was prepared to act without delay. "Anyway, I am ready to 'go' when you are. Just say when?" he said, linking NATO unity to an immediate end to the war.
