FIA finds Imran Khan, former Pak Foreign Minister guilty in cipher case

Pakistan's top investigation agency, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday declared former Prime Minister Imran Khan and ex-Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi guilty in the diplomatic cipher case related to the alleged disclosure of state secrets.

The FIA submitted the charge sheet against Khan and Qureshi to a special court established under the Official Secrets Act. Both are currently detained in jail on judicial remand. The agency has further requested the court to commence the trial of both leaders and sentence them "according to the law".
Khan was arrested last month after a case was filed against him for allegedly violating the Official Secrets Act by disclosing a secret diplomatic cable (also known as a cipher) sent by the country's embassy in Washington last March. The FIA also attached the transcript of Khan and Qureshi's respective speeches made on 27 March in the chargesheet as well as including a list of 28 witnesses. The chargesheet mentions Foreign Secretary Asad Majid, former Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, and Additional Foreign Secretary Faisal Niaz Tirmizi in its list of witnesses.
