Satellite communications provider Viasat to push further into Asia

Asia's unique geography comprising thousands of islands makes it ideal for the deployment of satellite communications, said US-based satellite communications provider Viasat as it looks to expand further into Asia, the fastest-growing market in this area worldwide.

Singapore will play a key role in the company's plans, given that it is the nexus of the global maritime and aviation sectors in the region.

Viasat's ambition is largely spurred by rapidly growing segments within its addressable market, coupled with its somewhat limited exposure to South-east Asia.

Viasat president K. Guru Gowrappan told The Straits Times that the group has a relatively small market presence in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia, which are ideal for satellite communications.
