Local shares defy regional rally after Trump's tariff remarks

• STI declines by 0.4% as the trio of local banks end mixed • Wall Street bullish overnight, with the Dow surging 1.2% • Chinese stocks in the red, but rest of region in the black
Wall Street's rally overnight failed to inspire local investors, who sent shares down a notch on Jan 22, following newly inaugurated US President Donald Trump's trade tariff remarks, while regional bourses were mainly higher.
The benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) slipped 0.4 per cent, or 14.16 points, to 3,781.21. On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 280 to 205 on trade of 1.3 billion securities worth $1.2 billion.
