Planning to meet 20 of the energy needs through renewable sources by 2030, the state government is working on establishing 8 to 12 new plants by 2026 to encourage waste-to-energy schemes in West Bengal.
According to the state minister-in- charge for Non- Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources, Md. Ghulam Rabbani, the government is exploring integrated models that combine solar with other renewable resources such as biomass and hybrid systems.
Mr Rabbani was speaking during the 15 edition of Energy Conclave 2025 organised by CII Eastern Region in Kolkata, today.
With renewables already accounting for 25.12 per cent of the state’s total energy potential, Mr Rabbani reiterated that the focus is on making clean energy solutions more accessible and affordable for agricultural, residential, and commercial consumers, thereby accelerating West Bengal’s transition towards a sustainable energy future.
