SIR, The ongoing tussle between Tamil Nadu and the Centre over the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 raises a crucial question: How can India balance national education policies with regional autonomy while respecting cultural and linguistic diversity?

Tamil Nadu's resistance to NEP stems from a deep-seated concern over language imposition and the loss of state control over education. The Centre, on the other hand, argues that NEP aims to standardise education across the country. However, a one-size-fits-all approach is unlikely to work in a nation as diverse as India. Education is not just about curriculum; it is about identity, opportunity, and governance. The three-language formula, though advertised as flexible, is viewed with suspicion in states that have historically fought against linguistic imposition.
