Australia survived a late scare to secure a tense two-wicket victory over India in the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, sealing an unassailable 2-0 series lead.
Fifties from Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly proved crucial as the visitors held their nerve to chase down a challenging 265-run target.
Earlier, India, inserted to bat in tricky morning conditions, posted 264/9, led by Rohit Sharma's 73 and Shreyas Iyer's 61, with Axar Patel contributing a valuable 44. A late 37-run stand between Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh helped India push past 260, setting up an intriguing chase.
During the course of his knock, Rohit surpassed former India skipper Sourav Ganguly to become the third highest run-getter for India in ODIs, after Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) and Virat Kohli (14,181).
Rohit now has 11,249 runs while Ganguly hang his boots after scoring 11,221 runs. Rahul Dravid completes the top five with 10,768 runs in one-day internationals.
