CPM Expels Three-Time MP and Former State Minister Bansa Gopal Choudhury Over Charges of Misconduct With a Woman Party Member

The state committee of the CPI(M) expelled 65-year-old Bansa Gopal Choudhury on disciplinary grounds on Sunday.
Once a formidable CPI(M) leader, Choudhury was formerly a state cabinet minister of the Left Front government that ruled Bengal for almost three decades and a half. As a minister he held many important portfolios like state's departments of industries and commerce, small scale and cottage industries, and technical education department covering a long tenure, spanning from 1996 to 2005. He had served in both the cabinets led by Jyoti Basu and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
He was an MP from Asansol parliamentary constituency for multiple times, and also the chairman of Asansol Durgapur Development Authority (ADDA). After revered CPI(M) leader Binoy Krishna Choudhury, Bansa Gopal Choudhury served as the chairman of ADDA, and during his tenure all major developments like shopping malls, joint venture townships, private engineering colleges, and cluster of sponge iron plants had come up in the Asansol, Durgapur and Mangalpur areas.
