What happens when tech-savvy parents become co-educators?

In India, homeschooling was once an unconventional choice, reserved for families in remote locations or those with unique educational philosophies. Today, it is quietly moving into the mainstream.

- DINESH GUPTA

The change isn’t just about children studying at the dining table; it's about parents stepping into the role of co-educators, powered by technology, global exposure, and unprecedented access to learning resources. Homeschooling 2.0 is a model where parents are not traditional teachers but facilitators, mentors, and collaborators in their child’s educational journey.

From pandemic necessity to conscious choice

The shift began during the pandemic, when parents were thrust into the role of part-time teachers out of necessity. Initially, it was a stopgap measure. But over time, many families discovered the benefits of flexibility, personalised learning, and the ability to integrate real-life skills into academics.

For some, what began as a crisis adaptation has evolved into a deliberate choice. Families are blending structured curricula with life experiences, supplementing lessons with online platforms, virtual classrooms, and global learning communities.

Technology as the backbone

The modern homeschooling parent has an arsenal of tools unthinkable a decade ago:

-EdTech platforms offering activity-based, live interactive classes.

-AI-driven analytics that identify a child’s strengths and learning gaps.

-Global virtual classrooms where children collaborate with peers across continents.
