Supreme Court reserves verdict on pleas seeking stay on Waqf Act 2025

The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its order on pleas seeking an interim stay on the enforcement of contentious provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
The challenge pertains to provisions such as the abolition of waqf by user, the inclusion of non-Muslims in the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards, and clauses permitting the deprivation of "disputed" waqf properties without due process—allegedly undermining the religious freedoms guaranteed under Articles 25 and 26 of the Constitution.
A bench comprising Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Augustine George Masih reserved its verdict after three days of marathon arguments beginning on 20 May.
