BURs 2cr defalcation: Key accused arrested from Gujarat

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials have intercepted a Burdwan University finance department official, who had been working as an MGNREGA labourer in Gujarat for the past two years in disguise to evade arrest in connection with Rs 1.94-crore fund defalcation case.
The SIT, constituted following an order of the Calcutta High Court, arrested Bhakta Mondal—the key accused—from Bhuj in Gujarat yesterday. Officials were shocked to find that Mondal, the alleged mastermind and a multimillionaire, had been living as a daily wage labourer.
"He wasn't using a mobile phone and carried no valid documents establishing his Bengali identity, in order to stay off the radar of investigators," an SIT officer said.
