Ten day padayatra to save river Rushikulya culminates in Ganjam

The padayatra by green activists to save river Rushikulya which commenced from Pipalapanka culminated at Ganjam on Tuesday demanding withdrawal of the proposed dam project at Pipalapanka.

BHUBANESWAR, 25 MARCH:

The construction of the dam on the original source of water flow will dry up the river, alleged the activists led by Prafulla Samantara, Sudhir Routa, Bhala Sadangi and others.

Over ten days, the padayatra passed through more than 100 villages on both sides of the river and towns like Sorada, Dharakote, Aska, Purusottampur and Ganjam where civic receptions were given to activists.

Samantara, the activist who was one of leading persons against the same proposed dam in 1997, expressed deep concern that the state of the river now is worse at present due to climate change and unlimited illegal sand mining.
