Oppn to stage joint protest at Bhubaneswar on 18 July

Opposition parties—Congress, Left, NCP and SP on Monday announced that they will jointly stage a massive protest in front of the state secretariat on 18 July demanding a judicial probe into the self-immolation case of a girl student of FM College, Balasore.

OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das held a meeting with the representatives of the Left, NCP, SP. They demanded a judicial probe and resignation of the local BJP MLA and MP of Balasore as well as that of the Higher Education Minister.

The victim girl had petitioned each one of the BJP leaders seeking justice. She had written on 1 July and when none of them responded, she took the drastic step, said the Opposition leaders. The BJP MP, MLA and Minister have no moral right to continue as they failed in their duty, said the joint statement.

Ridiculing the CM Mohan Charan Majhi for boasting of meeting people and resolving their grievances at regularly held CM Grievance Cell meetings, the Opposition pointed out that the response to the victim girl's plea exposes the false propaganda. She had also tagged the CMO in her social media post seeking justice, they noted.
