Market erases intraday gains, but ends positive

The stock market on Tuesday erased some of the intraday gains but managed to close ona positive note. Nifty closed above the 25,100 amid buying seen in the auto, consumer durables, oil & gas, energy, and realty names.

At close, the Sensex was up 136.63 points or 0.17per cent at 81,926.75, and the Nifty was up 30.65 points or 0.12per cent at 25,108.30. The BSE Midcap index added 0.14per cent and the smallcap index ended marginally lower.

Among the sectors, those with significant losses were Nifty FMCG down by 0.53per cent, Media down by 0.46per cent, and PSU Bank down by 04lper cent. On the contrary, those with gains were Nifty Realty up by 1.09per cent, Oil & Gas up by 0.49per cent, and Pharma up by 0.44per cent, Nifty Bank and Financial Services rose by 0.24per cent each.
