Reigning German champions edge past former European champions to close gap on league leaders Bayern Munich
Second-placed Bayer Leverkusen closed the gap on leader Bayern Munich after defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the 16th round of the Bundesliga on Friday.
Bayer Leverkusen thus started the year with a big boost to their hopes of defending the Bundesliga title by beating a depleted Borussia Dortmund. Nathan Tella scored after just 25 seconds of the first Bundesliga game of 2025 and Leverkusen scored on all of their first three shots against Dortmund, who were missing six players due to illness and had to field a makeshift defensive line.
