3rd ODI: Dominant India Overpower England to Complete Series Sweep

Century by Shubman Gill, strong show by bowlers help India post another comprehensive victory

India rode a strong batting performance headlined by a century by Shubman Gill alongside half-centuries by Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli backed up by a superb show by the bowlers to thrash England by 142 runs in third and final ODI here on Wednesday.

India thus made a clean sweep in the series, white-washing England 3-0.

Batting first, star opener Shubman Gill's (112) seventh century in the 50-over game alongside crucial half-centuries by Shreyas Iyer (78) and Virat Kohli (52) helped India post a massive total of 356, their highest-ever total at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya then bagged two wickets each as the visitors were bundled out for 214 runs in 34.2 overs. Tom Banton and Gus Atkinson top scored for England with identical scores of 38.

Earlier, England skipper Jos Buttler completed a hat-trick by winning the toss for the third straight game and elected to field first, after having opted to bat in the first two games.
